As part of the Alice's Adventures Underground immersive theatre experience in London's Waterloo Vaults, the producers wanted to understand how the tight timings of the show would work across the site map that they had designed.
Working with the show designers, Flat Peak built a CSS representation of the show's map, and created a functional model of the timings and scene changes that could be adjusted in real time by the producers.
The main application used the Ruby on Rails framework, that provided an API and Websockets endpoint to a front end application that consumed the information, and presented back to the production team, ensuring that all the timing calculations were performed server-side, for a ligher client experience.
Using Websockets (via ActionCable), the team were able to visualise the running order of the show across multiple computers, and edit and update the show's timing in real time, allowing them to fully understand the show's timings, and to ensure that crucial show timings were ready before rehersals began.
